Housing Facility Details

Please review details of all housing options. Participants will be asked to select their desired housing facility for the program at the time of application.

Option 1:

The UNO-Japan: Study at Doshisha University program participants will be housed in the brand new university housing facility, opening in fall of 2021, near the campus where classes will be held. The facility, called the "Keishiryo," is a community student housing dormitory for both Japanese and international students, and is about a 5 minute walk from campus.

Students will reside in a single room which each include a bed, desk, closet, and window. Bedding sheets and pillow will be provided. There will be a shared living room area outside the single bedrooms where there will be a shared refrigerator and space to hangout. Students can receive ordinary mail and will be delivered into the room's postbox settled right in front of the dorm's entrance. If it is a registered post, students are required to either receive the package in person at the entrance of the dorm or stay in the room during the time of delivery to receive it.

There are six bathrooms and two showers shared between the 20 students housed in this section of the dorm. There is also a shared Japanese-style bath (sento) available to use on the basement level floor where students can experience the Japanese bathing custom. Students will have access to a shared kitchen and laundry machines in the facility.

The dorm's curfew hours are from 11:00pm to 6:30am, in consideration for the surrounding residential neighborhoods to prevent noise pollution. If students wish to go out earlier that 6:30am, they are advised to inform the dorm manager the day prior. In case of being unable to return to the dorm by 11:00pm due to an inevitable reason such as missing the bus or train delay, students are expected to let the manager know as soon as possible.

Please email UNOJapan@uno.edu for more information or questions about housing.

Option 2:

Our other housing option for the UNO-Japan program will be at a Japanese guesthouse located a 10-minute walk from historical site, Nijo Castle. The Kyoto Uraraka Guest House offers a single room with WiFi access and equipped with a mini-fridge, TV, and working desk. A tiny, private, full bathroom is also equipped inside each room. There is no kitchen for use in this facility, but a microwave is available in the common area. The rooms at the guesthouse come at an additional fee of $400.00.

Students can use coin-operated laundry machines at the guesthouse floor level (washer 200 yen, dryer 100 yen: open 24 hours). There is no formal curfew established at the guesthouse at the initial time of the program. Students are expected to respect each others' living space and living needs. Quiet hours will be observed between the hours of 11:00pm and 6:30am. Violations of the quiet time will result in punitive action such as setting a curfew.

There is a 18-minute bus commute to Doshisha University Imadegawa Campus from the guesthouse (or a 30 minute walk). Participants are expected to take this into consideration in order to arrive to their classes on time.

Please email UNOJapan@uno.edu for more information or questions on availability.

No matter which housing facility participants choose, bring your walking shoes! Everyone in Japan uses public transportation heavily to get around and you will be expected to do the same.
