Sophomores- Second year

Second Year students will.. 

  • Define and make progress towards their academic goals and personal goals 

  • Make connections with students, faculty, and staff  

  • Be involved on campus by joining a student organization or attending campus events 

 

Check Lists for 2nd Year Students:  

  • Academic Planning & Support
    •  Meet with academic advisor at least once a semester to discuss academic goals and academic progress 

    • Discuss with academic advisor academic SAP requirements to remain in good academic standing 

    • Attend at least one student/office hour per course, per semester 

    • Maximize the utilization of tutoring and academic services  

    • Visit the Learning Resource Center 

    • Use the Writing Center                           

    • Register for classes for each semester 

  • Career Planning
    • Explore major and career options and take the TypeFocus self-assessment    

    • Start researching internship opportunities with Career Services 

    • Attend a Career Services workshop 

    • Create Handshake account/profile 

    • Create or update resume with jobs, activities, class projects and awards etc.

  • Holistic Wellness
    • Meet with financial aid counselors to get help with any questions regarding financial aid 

    • Discuss with financial aid counselor the GPA requirements for Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) regarding keeping your financial aid or scholarships 

    • Fill out and complete FAFSA for the next school year 

    • Check Webstar to check on any financial obligations related to UNO 

    • Foster healthy habits that promote balance of academics, social life, and selfcare  

    • Utilize the recreation and fitness center 

    • Maximize utilization of Counseling Services  

    • Attend outreach events 

    • Participate in group or individual counseling sessions 

    • Learn more about on and off campus resources offered through the university 

  • Involvement & Leadership
    • Attend a campus resource and involvement fair  

    • Join at least one student organization that helps me interact with people from different backgrounds or beliefs than my own 

    • Attend at least one campus program or event a month 

    • An athletic event such as a basketball game 

    • A student-organization hosted event like Swampball 

    • A campus tradition like Homecoming or SUCbAUF 

    • A career services event like the Career Fair 

    • Volunteer with a campus clean-up or City Park  

    • Develop skills through various leadership initiatives such as the Emerging Leaders Program
