Seniors - Fourth year+ 

Fourth Year+ year students will.... 

  • Prepare for their transition and plan for life after college 

  • Connect with campus partners to ensure that all requirements are met to graduate 

  • Get the necessary tools they need in order to become successful alumni 

 

Fourth Year+ Checklist​​​​​​​

  • Academic Support 
     
    • Meet with academic advisor to ensure all requirements are met for graduation 

    • Apply for graduation and make sure all documents are submitted  

    • Check your degree audit plan to make sure all required courses that have taken for completion of the degree 

    • Complete the Graduate Student Survey 

    • Apply for graduate school 

  • Career Preparation   

     

    • Meet with Career Services to create a job application and preparation plan 

    • Begin applying to jobs and/or Career Fair Expo                           

    • Get resume and cover letter updated with career services                                          

    • Get help with personal statements for graduate school from a faculty member or Career Services             

    • Attend a Senior Seminar Events  

    • Attend a Career Services workshop that helps you decide how you want to be in the workplace (your professional identity) 

    • Participate in the Global Competence Certificate (GCC) program to prepare to work effectively in a diverse workplace 

    • Join Career Services & Alumni Association Mentoring Program  

    • Identify and obtain faculty and staff that can be used as a professional reference 

    • Focus on getting professional letters of recommendation  

  • Holistic Wellness 

                                                                                                                                       

    • Create a plan to maintain healthy habits that promote balance of work, social life, and self-care after college 

    • Prepare for new post-college challenges such as finding an apartment, reliable transportation, new budget considerations, etc 

    • Utilize the recreation and fitness center 

    • Meet with Counseling Services if/when you feel burnt out or stressed about moving on to your next steps 

    • Meet with financial aid counselors for exit interviews to help understand your financial obligations by the completion of graduation 

    • Check Webstar to check on any financial obligations related to UNO 

    • If going to graduate school: Apply for scholarships and grants  

    • Attend money management and financial literacy workshops  

    • Identify and ask co-workers or professors to serve as a positive professional reference 

  • Involvement & Leadership

                 

    •  Join at least one student organization that is related to your career for networking opportunities 

    • Attend events on campus such as Senior Week 

    • Practice communicating leadership skills on your resume and behavioral interview questions
