International Travel: Passport, Visa, Flight, Airport Transfer
Passport & Visa
A valid passport is required for everyone traveling to Europe. Your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond your period of stay or you may be denied entry into Germany and other European countries. For passport fees, application instructions and forms, see the U.S. Department of State site: travel.state.gov It is strongly suggested that you apply for your passport as soon as possible, and no later than April. Visas are generally not required for U.S. citizens traveling to Austria for less than 90 days. All international students requiring visas for travel in European countries must secure those visas before arrival in Europe. The Division of International Education at UNO assumes no responsibility for visas.
Important information: Passport processing times have recently been longer than usual and may be as long as 3 months or more. Please check the passport page on the web site of the U.S. State Department for current processing times.
Travel Dates
The UNO-Innsbruck International Summer School 2024 starts on Tuesday, July 2 and ends on Saturday, August 10. To arrive on July 2, you MUST depart the U.S. on July 1st (overnight flight). Students must check into the dormitory by 4:00 PM on July 2, in time for the mandatory on-site orientation. Departure date is Saturday, August 10. All students must check out of the dormitory by 12:00 PM.

Rail Passes
For weekend travels through Europe and travels before and/or after the program, rail is the best, most affordable and most sustainable mode of transportation. We recommend a Eurailpass, which must be purchased in the U.S. before departure. Students must purchase their Eurailpass independently. As Eurailpasses are based on the exchange rate between the US dollar and the Euro, the railpass price is not fixed until the pass is actually purchased. Generally, the Eurail Global Pass with "15 days within two months" or "10 days within two months" work best for our students. This pass allows students to use the train on any 15 or 10 days within a two month period of the first travel date. Since our students can only travel on the weekends during the program, the flexibility this pass provides is of advantage. Whether you should get a 10-day or 15-day pass depends on how much travelling you plan to do before and during the program.
During our first week in Innsbruck, we will hold a Eurail and Travel orientation and go over details on how to use the trains in Europe and how the Eurail pass works. Please remember, though, that the pass must be purchased before you leave the U.S.

Weekend Travel
Classes are scheduled from Monday to Thursday, except for the first week of classes when classes are held on Friday as well. Most of these long weekends are free for students' individual travel and offer a wonderful opportunity to explore other parts of Europe.
Extra-curriculars
“The highlight of the program was the wide variety of afternoon activities and also the SET program.” Sophie Vincent, Louisiana State University
“The evening activities, football with the refugees, and the different seminars were very entertaining and informative.” Harihar Ojha, University of New Orleans
