Upcoming important dates

Pontchartrain Halls will officially close for the Spring 2024 Semester on Friday, May 10th, at 5:00 PM.
ADDITIONAL FEES WILL APPLY TO STUDENTS WHO REMAIN IN HALL AFTER MAY 10TH AT 5:00 PM.

Moving out

Before Finals Week

Plan Your Travel Arrangements

Whether you are traveling far or staying in New Orleans, it is important to make your arrangements sooner than later!

Start Packing

Avoid last minute packing and start to packing your items.

Stay Notified

Multiple forms of communication (email, texts, posts, bulletin boards, floor meetings) will be shared to ensure all relevant information is given.

During Finals Week

24-Hour Quiet Hours

Please be mindful of those who are studying/preparing for their finals. Do your part to help your community succeed!

Start Cleaning Your Space

RAs will be conducting Health & Safety room inspections during this time. Ensure that your space is up to community standards and follows Residential Life policies.
Start taking out your trash and items you wish to dispose of (keeping in mind perishable items in your space) to avoid our trash rooms from being overfilled.

Checking Out of the Building

Residents are required to vacate Pontchartrain Halls by Friday, May 10th at 5:00 PM. Students are responsible for the condition of their room/suite upon departure from campus. Students are also responsible for the condition of all university-owned furniture and amenities in their room/suite. Need a short term extension past the official closing date? Fill out this form by April 30.

Residents RETURNING the following semester:

Leaving for summer but returning for the fall? Remove ALL your items and check out as rooms are used for summer conference housing and summer projects.

Times for check-in for Fall 2024 are on the Residential Life (Residents) App on My Apps.

Residents STAYING during the break period:

Staying for a break period?
Anticipate a health and safety room inspection to be conducted by your Resident Assistant (RA).

Stay up to date on check-in and check-out dates/times specific for the break period communicated through your email to check in and have your ID programmed for the break period.

Residents NOT returning the following semester:

Not planning to return to Pontchartrain Halls for Fall 2024? 
Complete the Pontchartrain Hall cancellation form if you have not already to cancel the Fall.

Resident Check Out List
Before you leave:
- Ensure that all personal belongings are removed from your space.
- Any abandoned bicycles will be removed.
- Double-check all drawers, closets, vanity storage, and common areas for personal items.
- Clear all trash from common areas, your room, and the bathroom.
- Dispose of any trash in the designated trash room.
- Large items should be taken to the outside dumpster.
- Before leaving, ensure that all lights are turned off, doors and windows are closed and locked, and blinds are pulled halfway up.
- Return your hard key using the express check-out envelopes provided at your hall's front desk.
- Keep your UNOID with you!
FAILURE TO COMPLETE THE CHECKLIST ITEMS WILL RESULT IN AN IMPROPER CHECKOUT FEE OF $250.

Donate, Don’t Dispose!

Goodwill Donations: Donate your gently-used clothes, shoes, purses, linens, towels, fans, housewares, blankets, sporting goods, and more! Donation bins will be located at the main lobbies on the first floor of Pontchartrain Halls North and South.

Privateer Pantry Donations: Place UNOPENED food in the designated boxes located on the first floor of Pontchartrain Halls North and South to have items donated to the Privateer Pantry.

Need to Stay Over Break?

Winter Break
- Residents needing to stay for the Winter Break period will be required to pay a winter break fee that will be charged to your Webstar account if your request is approved.
- Requests are reviewed on an individual basis; approval or denial will be sent to your UNO email account.
- If you meet the essential requirements please fill out the Winter Break Pontchartrain Hall Housing Request Form.
Summer Session
- Residents wishing to stay for the Summer Session period must apply for a Summer Housing Application on their Residential Life App on My Apps. For full instructions on how to apply please visit this LINK.
- Requests are reviewed on an individual basis; approval or denial will be sent to your UNO email account.

Moving in

Before Move-In Week

Check Your Room Assignment

Residents may preview their housing information, including room assignment and roommates prior to moving in on their Residential Life App found on My Apps.

Pack Your Items

Be sure to review the suggested packing list and familiarize yourself with items that are not permitted in Pontchartrain Halls for a smooth and hassle-free move-in experience.

Select a Move-In Date/Time

Select your preferred move-in time from the available options provided beforehand on your Residence Life app, ensuring a convenient and organized start to your residence hall experience!

During Move-In Week

Have Your UNO ID Ready

Make sure you have your UNO ID card handy, which you can obtain during summer orientation for new students or at the ID center.

Meet Your Neighbors

Get to know your roommate(s) and neighbors, establishing a sense of community within the residence hall.
Participate in welcome events organized by the residence halls or university.

Understand Building Policies

Review the residence hall policies outlined in the handbook and housing agreement to ensure full understanding and compliance with the rules and regulations set by the institution.

Checking Into the Building

Checking into the building is a crucial step to kickstart your residence hall experience at UNO. It's imperative to ensure that you arrive on the appropriate day designated for move-in to streamline the process and avoid any delays or complications.

Mandatory Floor Meetings

Attend mandatory floor meetings hosted by Resident Assistants (RAs) to familiarize yourself with building policies, safety procedures, and community guidelines.

Be sure to keep an eye out on your email inbox, posted flyers, and other forms of communication.

Room Condition Reports

Complete a Room Condition Report (RCRs) on the housing self-service app to document the condition of your room upon move-in, ensuring accountability and resolving any discrepancies later.

RCRs may be found on your Residential Life app on My Apps.

Suite Mate Agreements

Take the opportunity to create a suite mate agreement with your suite mates, establishing clear expectations and fostering a harmonious living environment for all residents.

RAs will reach out to suites to help facilitate these meetings.

Moving Into Lafitte Village?
- Information regarding Lafitte Village move-in will be provided by the Office of Residential Life via email.

Move-In Krewe

Join the Pontchartrain Halls Move-In Krewe for Fall 2024! The Office of Residential Life at the University of New Orleans invites you to be a part of an exciting team dedicated to creating a smooth and memorable move-in experience for incoming students. Ready to help? Sign up below!

First Step: Complete this form [FORM TBP] for your basic information

Second Step: Sign up for specific responsibilities and give your shirt size HERE [FORM TBP] after completion of first form.

The individual submitting the form will receive an email the week of [DATE TBA] reminding them of their responsibilities and an in-depth guide for what to expect.

All volunteers will receive a FREE UNO ResLife Move-In Krewe shirt if the form is submitted before [DATE/TIME TBA] (CST). Please email us if you have any questions at residentiallife@uno.edu

What does a Move-In Krewe Volunteer do?
As a Krewe member, you'll assist with tasks such as unloading vehicles, managing move-in carts, directing students and their families, answering questions, and providing a warm welcome to the UNO community.

Main responsibilities include:
- Assisting with unloading vehicles and carrying belongings: Help students and their families unload their belongings from vehicles and transport them to designated areas or rooms.
- Providing directions and guidance to students and families: Provide clear guidance for smooth move-in: Direct students and families, ensuring they know where to go and what steps to follow.
- Offering a warm welcome and answering questions: Create a welcoming atmosphere, assist students and families, and provide campus information.
- Organizing and maintaining an efficient process: Coordinate flow of people and belongings for organized move-in. Manage cart distribution and resources. Assist with packaging and trash, ensuring a clean environment.
