Peer Equity and Resource Educator (PERE)
A Peer Equity and Resource Educator (PERE) engages students in building an inclusive community with one-time and on-going opportunities on behalf of the Diversity Engagement Center (DEC). Students reflect on and share their own experiences while learning from others and their different perspectives. Peer Equity and Resource Educators foster intercultural communication skills, identity development, and ally-ship. PEREs organize bi-weekly programs and socials as well as coordinate the cultural graduate celebration. Committed to inclusive excellence and trained in facilitation, PEREs are students who run many of the following programs:
- Sundae’s on Thursday: A monthly social program designed to bring campus partners and community together.
- Cultural Cafe: A student-organized activity and dialogue series for the UNO community
- Digital Passives: Passive information sharing in a digital format around current issues and topics
- #LetsUnpackThat: Workshops that explore hot button issues with engaging activities and open dialogue designed to empower students through education on issues of race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, religion, and their intersections.

This institute will run every Thursday, From February 9, 2023 - April 27, 2023, from 4:30-6:00 PM (except Thursday, February 23 and April 6, 2023) via zoom.
The Multicultural Leadership Institute (MLI) offers UNO students a free diversity-training institute (2 hrs every week for 12 weeks). The workshop will provide service-learning opportunities.
The Diversity Engagement Center offers a 10-week institute designed to be people from a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences to spend time together, to understand, appreciate, and value each other, and in turn, go out and do that in the world around them. In addition, this program is designed to bring multicultural leaders together in challenging times and wrestling with how to pursue justice, healing, and reconciliation in a world too often divided. The MLI program explores topics related to culture, social justice, and reconciliation. We do not want to stop at justice but want to think about how to build strong, diverse, yet interconnected, and supportive individuals and communities. We will primarily use The Racial Healing Handbook by Dr. Anneliese Singh with other intersectional materials.
