Culture & Community

These groups provide community for students with specific racial, ethnic, and multicultural identities, such as UNITY, the Progressive Black Student Union, or the Vietnamese American Student Association.

African-Caribbean Student Organization (ACSO)

Purpose: To educate people more about African and Caribbean countries and disban stereotypes and further promote diversity.


Bangladesh Student Association (BSA)

Purpose: To familiarize people with the culture of Bangladesh and ensure continued practice of our own culture, and to create a network for students of Bangladesh that will help them communicate with Bangladeshi students and alumni of the University of New Orleans.


Bollywood Club

Purpose: To promote Indian culture through Bollywood films, music, and dance and to build an environment where people from all cultures can come together and celebrate India.


Chakra Indian Student Association

Purpose: To provide a stable support system and a rich cultural experience especially for Indian origin students. To propagate the culture, traditions, and arts of India in the USA.


International Student Organization (ISO)

Purpose: To create an atmosphere where all students, international and domestic, can meet and engage in activities to share in their different backgrounds, experiences, and cultures. ISO promotes friendship and cultural awareness to the UNO community by participating in and organizing social activities and events.


National Society of Black Engineers 

Purpose: The Mission of NSBE it " to increase the number of culturally responsible Black Engineers who excel academically, success professionally and positively impact the community.


Nepalese Student Association of New Orleans (NSANO)

Purpose: To represent the Nepalese student body at UNO and unite all those interested in Nepalese culture.


Privateer Garden Cooperative (PGC)

Purpose: To assemble gardeners on campus who wish to teach their skills to others.


Progressive Black Student Union (PBSU)

Purpose: To promote cultural, academic, social and political growth as well as to raise awareness of issues relative to the black community.


Turkish Student Association

Purpose: To foster interaction between the Turkish community and American community here at University of New Orleans.


Vietnamese American Student Association (VASA)

Purpose: To dedicate ourselves to spreading cultural awareness and diversity both on campus and in the New Orleans community.  We strive to strengthen the understanding and appreciation for Vietnamese culture through service opportunities, cultural and social events, and active participation.


UNITY

Purpose: To create a community of LGBTQIQAP+ identified individuals as well as their allies in order to establish dialogue, form a safe space for exploration and expression, educate about and discuss issues relevant to the community, and work to initiate change.
