Parviz Rastgoufard, Ph.D., joined the University of New Orleans as the first recipient of the Entergy Endowed Chair for Power Systems Engineering-a $2 million endowed chair established by collaboration of Entergy Corporation and the State of Louisiana at the University of New Orleans in 2007. He is currently involved with research projects in power systems area (grid management; transmission system planning, operation, and economics; on-line system security assessment and enhancement; intelligent systems for blackout prediction and prevention), development of power and energy systems engineering curriculum and integration of entrepreneurship and undergraduate research into electrical engineering curriculum, and directing the Energy & Power Industry Consortium. Since 1987, Parviz has served as principal investigator on more than 50 research projects leading to graduation of more than 75 Ph.D. and M.Sc. students and three post doctoral fellows. He is currently serving as principal investigator on four research projects for studying Blackout Prediction and Prevention, Impact of Hurricane on LA Transmission System, Integration of Renewable Sources of Energy to Electric Grid, and Real Time Pattern Recognition of Grid Voltage and Oscillation fluctuations.
