Pathways students are provided with:
|
WHAT IS A PATHWAYS SUPPORT COURSE? |
---|
The Pathways Support Course is a Co-Requisite, meaning you receive support while you are taking the course you need for your degree. As a result, you will do better in the class. Depending on your needs, you are enrolled in a Pathways Support Course for Math or English (not both). These courses allow for more one-on-one time with your instructor as well as time to work with peers. Class sizes are small, so you get individualized attention. |
WHAT IS A LEARNING COMMUNITY? |
---|
Most first-year students, regardless of their past academic success, are unprepared to deal with the rigor of college life, particularly during their first semester. A Learning Community is made up of a group of students who share academic goals and attitudes. They are grouped together in cohorts to support each other through the first year of college. |

HOW DOES A LEARNING COMMUNITY WORK? |
---|
In your first semester at UNO, you’ll be placed in Learning Communities with students who have similar interests and needs. This means that in your core classes you’ll have a built in support team! Around 20 students are enrolled together in the same core courses:
**You cannot change these core courses unless you have AP or dual enrollment credit. During New Student Orientation, you will meet with an adviser and finalize your schedule. |
CAN I TEST OUT OF PRIVATEER PATHWAYS? |
---|
Yes! You can attempt to test out of the Privateer Pathways program. You can take the Accuplacer (a test specifically for English and/or Math) in the UNO Testing Center and attempt to test out of English or Math. The Testing Center offers the Accuplacer M-F from 9:30AM-2:30PM. You do not need an appointment. In order to test out of English Pathways, you must earn an 86 or higher on the Sentence Skills Accuplacer; to test out of Math Pathways, you must earn a 65 or higher on the Elementary Algebra Accuplacer. Your Accuplacer test score in Math or English will replace your original ACT/SAT Math or English scores. |
WHAT HAPPENS IF I TEST OUT? |
---|
If you test out of the Pathways program, you will be taken out of the program completely. All you would have to do is bring your new test scores to the Pathways Academic Adviser, Julie Jones Ingram. She will then take you out of the Pathways courses and Learning Community. You will then be required to add a new section of your Math or English course, as well as a new section of your University Success course. |

DO I HAVE TO LIVE ON CAMPUS? |
---|
If you participate in Pathways Camp, you should live on campus during the one week camp period. You are not required to live on campus during the academic year to participate in Pathways. While living on campus is not required, it is strongly recommended. Students who live on campus have a higher retention rate than those who reside off campus, make friends faster, learn about themselves and how to live with others, and become engaged with the university much faster.
