The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at UNO offers instruction leading to the degrees of Master of Science (M.S.) in Engineering and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Engineering and Applied Science. In addition, the department offers a graduate certificate in Coastal Engineering.
The M.S. degree program is intended to provide students with additional fundamental knowledge and specialized advanced understanding in selected Civil engineering facets over and above the undergraduate degree course work. The doctor of philosophy (Ph.D.) degree program is intended to prepare students for careers in teaching, research, and/or in their chosen professional fields. The Ph.D. program requires a departmental comprehensive examination, a Ph.D. candidacy examination, a Ph.D. dissertation based on new and unique research, and a dissertation defense. Both degrees offer opportunities for training in one or more of the following research focus areas within the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department:
- Structural Engineering
- Geotechnical Engineering
- Environmental Engineering
- Hydraulics and Water Resources Engineering
- Coastal Engineering and Sciences
Master of Science (M.S.) in Engineering
The College of Engineering offers a graduate program leading to a Master of Science (M.S.) in Engineering with a choice of several concentrations, including Civil Engineering.
Applicants with various backgrounds and different goals can be accommodated in the program of graduate study leading to the degree of Master of Science in Engineering, and many of the courses are scheduled "after hours" to enable the working engineer to continue to broaden his/her education on a part-time basis.
Ph.D. in Engineering and Applied Science
The College of Engineering offers a graduate program, in which the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering is a participant, leading to a Ph.D. in Engineering and Applied Science.
Graduate Certificate in Coastal Engineering
The CEE department at UNO also offers a graduate level certificate (Graduate Certificate in Coastal Engineering). The coastal certificate courses can be used towards the MS in Engineering degree.
