Excursion to Venice!

Participants of the Ezra Pound Seminar and Writing Workshop at Brunnenburg will spend three days and three nights in Venice, Italy, where they will take in the scenic sights of the city and the lagoon, as well as visit spots that inspired some of Ezra Pound's greatest work.

Here, they will listen to and discuss Pound’s poetry in streets and doorways, on bridges, by canals, inside churches, and at museums. They will also see where Pound lived and be able to visit his grave at San Michele Cemetery.

For the Venice trip, the program will cover the cost of train travel from Brunnenburg to Venice, hotel accommodations (including breakfast), most museum fees, and a vaporetto (boat) pass. Participants will be responsible for additional meals, personal expenses, and souvenirs.

Other Excursions Include:

A walking tour to the nearby resort commune of Dorf Tirol, home to the basic essentials as well as to a wide range of hotels, gasthauses, restaurants, pizzerias, cafes, and an information center

•         A day trip into the valley below Brunnenburg to the Farmer's Market, the river waterfront esplanade, the pedestrian mall, the chairlift, and other sights in the picturesque city of Merano

•         A sky lift to Hochmuth, above Dorf Tirol, where participants can take part in hiking trails into surrounding areas of the Italian Alps and/or enjoy lunch with a commanding view of the Alto Adiges valley.

•         As the schedule permits, an evening concert at Schloss Tirol, the major castle of the South Tyrol, only a short walk from Brunnenburg, which also houses a world-class museum

•         A half-day trip to Tschengls to see the "Three Pillars" monument dedicated Pound's epic vision

On site, participants will additionally enjoy a tour of the Brunnenburg Agricultural Museum on site, fun-filled evening soirees with poetry readings, music, and conversation in the castle's Knight's Hall, afternoon tea with Mary de Rachewiltz, a farewell banquet, and other special events and lectures to be determined.
