Activism & Advocacy

These groups host educational events to increase the awareness and involvement of UNO students in social issues, such as the Intersectional Feminist Club, the Louisiana Environmental Advocacy Force (LEAF), or Louisiana Trans Advocates chapter at UNO.

Best Buddies

Purpose: To establish a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for advocacy, one-to-one friendships, integrated employment and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).


Intersectional Feminism Club

Purpose: To educate members on intersectional feminism, provide opportunities for activism and volunteer work, and raise money for local charities and non-profits.


Louisiana Environmental Advocacy Force (LEAF)

Purpose: To educate and promote sustainability and sustainable development at school and in the community.


Louisiana Trans Advocates Chapter of UNO

Purpose: To provide a safe space for all gender non-conforming students and their allies to express themselves in a safe social atmosphere, to discuss general issues on campus, to spread information on campus, and to generally act in the best interest of gender non-conforming students.


National Society of Black Engineers 

Purpose: The Mission of NSBE it " to increase the number of culturally responsible Black Engineers who excel academically, success professionally and positively impact the community.


Social Justice Club

Purpose: To inform students of global, social problems and discuss issues that affect mainly oppressed groups in a safe space.


Students Against Systematic Oppression

Purpose: To unite students of all backgrounds and identities in an inclusive environment for fruitful discussion about Geo politics and our roles as humans within this microcosm.


Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP)

Purpose: To raise awareness within the UNO community and New Orleans of the plight of the Palestinian people living in Occupied Palestine. SJP exhibits the beautiful cultural aspects of the Palestinian people, celebrating their existence and courage and also raises awareness on several other humanitarian issues, creating connections to emphasize the global connection to these problems.


Students United

Purpose: To Connect students with the broader socialist movement in New Orleans.


UNICEF at UNO

Purpose: To provide the resources and skills for UNO students to think globally and act locally for the world’s most vulnerable children. The club's goals include: encouraging students to be effective global citizens, raise awareness about children's rights and current events affecting children, and conducting campaigns, events, and fundraisers to support children in the US and around the globe.


UNITY

Purpose: To create a community of LGBTQIQAP+ identified individuals as well as their allies in order to establish dialogue, form a safe space for exploration and expression, educate about and discuss issues relevant to the community, and work to initiate change.
