Pontchartrain Halls & TRAC Spring 2025 Closing

Pontchartrain Halls & TRAC will close on Friday, December 12, 2025, at 12 PM.

Only graduating seniors and those with extenuating circumstances may request to leave after closing. Any student remaining in Pontchartrain Halls & TRAC after 12 PM on Friday, December 12 will incur the winter break fee of $300 and any additional improper checkout fees.

đź“„ Fall 2025 Check-Out Extension Request

Complete no later than Thursday, May 1, 2025.


📢 Mandatory Closing Floor Meetings (Nov 17– Nov 23)

RAs are holding meetings to discuss the closing process. Look around your floor, check your email, or ask your RA for your floor’s specific date, time, and location.

Attendance is required. It is vital to be there to best understand the closing process. If you cannot attend, be sure to connect with your RA. It is your responsibility to understand the closing steps and avoid potential fees of up to $200+.


🏠 Returning for Spring 2026 

Please ensure you check out by Friday, December 12, at 12 PM. Beginning Nov 13, log in your Res Life App and select your move-in timeslot. Move-in for returning students is January 9-10, 2025.

Summer housing will run from Saturday, May 31 to Saturday, July 26, 2025 (Noon).

Please note that limited services will be available on campus during the break between semesters.

📦 Not Returning for Spring 2026?

Complete the Cancellation Form.

Complete the cancellation form to cancel the Spring portion of your 2025-2026 housing agreement. Students with an academic and full year leases are subject to the $750 Agreement Buyout fee if canceling their agreement. Students who cancel must remove all of their items and complete a full check out of Pontchartrain Halls and TRAC by 12 PM on Friday, December 12.  Students who cancel after December 12 may be subject to additional daily fees.

Plan Your Travel Arrangements

  • Whether you are traveling far or staying in New Orleans, it is important to make your arrangements sooner than later!

Start Packing

  • Avoid last minute packing and start to packing your items.

Stay Notified

  • Multiple forms of communication (email, texts, posts, bulletin boards, floor meetings) will be shared to ensure all relevant information is given. 

During Finals Week

24-Hour Quiet Hours

  • Please be mindful of those who are studying/preparing for their finals. Do your part to help your community succeed!

Start Cleaning Your Space

  • RAs will be conducting Health & Safety room inspections during this time. Ensure that your space is up to community standards and follows Residential Life policies.
  • Start taking out your trash and items you wish to dispose of (keeping in mind perishable items in your space) to avoid our trash rooms from being overfilled.

Fall 2025 Check-Out Instructions 


For students NOT returning for the Spring 2026 semester

 

âś… Step One: Complete Each Checklist Item

  1. Complete and sign the checklist sheet outside your suite.
  2. Take your bicycle with you. Abandoned or unregistered bikes will be removed late December.
  3. Remove all trash and personal items from common areas, your room, and bathroom. Large items must be taken to the outside dumpster.
  4. Check drawers, closets, vanity storage, and common spaces for any belongings.
  5. Turn off all lights.
  6. Close and lock all doors and windows.
  7. Pull blinds up halfway.
  8. Return your room key using the express check-out envelope available at the front desk.
  9. Remove the North or South sticker from your student ID.
  10. Take your student ID with you; you will need it for future semesters.
     

📦 Step Two: Return Your Key & Complete the Check-Out Process

Visit your front desk to pick up an express check-out envelope. Fill it out completely and place your bedroom key (if issued) inside.

Important: Failure to return your key and complete this process will result in the following fees:

  • $200 improper check-out fee
  • $50 lost key fee

It is not required for your Resident Assistant to be present at check-out. However, if you would like them to be there, please schedule a time with them directly.

  • Resident Check Out List (Non-Returners)

    Before you leave:

    • Ensure that all personal belongings are removed from your space.
    • Any abandoned bicycles will be removed.
    • Double-check all drawers, closets, vanity storage, and common areas for personal items.
    • Clear all trash from common areas, your room, and the bathroom.
    • Dispose of any trash in the designated trash room.
    • Large items should be taken to the outside dumpster.
    • Before leaving, ensure that all lights are turned off, doors and windows are closed and locked, and blinds are pulled halfway up.
    • Return your hard key using the express check-out envelopes provided at your hall's front desk.
    • Keep your UNOID with you!

    FAILURE TO COMPLETE THE CHECKLIST ITEMS WILL RESULT IN AN IMPROPER CHECKOUT FEE OF UP TO $250.

  • Resident Check Out List (Returners)

    Before you leave:

    • You are allowed to leave your belongings in your space if you are returning for the spring semester.
    • Clean your room and common areas before leaving to maintain a healthy environment.
    • Remove all non-perishable foods to prevent any pest or odor issues during the break.
    • Take all items off the floor in case of any emergency maintenance that may need to be done.
    • Double-check all drawers, closets, and storage areas for any personal items you might need over the break.
    • Take everything you’ll need with you as entry to the dorms after the closing date will not be permitted without prior notification and approval from the Office of Residential Life.

Donate, Don’t Dispose!

Goodwill Donations: Donate your gently-used clothes, shoes, purses, linens, towels, fans, housewares, blankets, sporting goods, and more! Donation bins will be located at the main lobbies on the first floor of Pontchartrain Halls North and South.

Privateer Pantry Donations: Place UNOPENED food in the designated boxes located on the first floor of Pontchartrain Halls North and South to have items donated to the Privateer Pantry.

Need to Stay Over Break?

  • Winter Break
    • Residents needing to stay for the Winter Break period will be required to pay a winter break fee that will be charged to your Webstar account if your request is approved.
    • Requests are reviewed on an individual basis; approval or denial will be sent to your UNO email account. 
    • If you meet the essential requirements please fill out the Winter Break Pontchartrain Hall Housing Request Form.
  • Summer Session

    This will be made available in mid-Spring 2026.
