The Rotterdam Conservatorium has a longstanding history, dating back to 1930. It has grown into one of the largest academies in the Netherlands with many students receiving vocational training (Higher Vocational Education - HBO) and many in preparatory training.

For a very long time the Rotterdam Conservatorium has enjoyed an excellent reputation both at home and abroad. The academy owes its good name to the top quality it offers in a wide range of subjects, geared to the requirements of the international professional practice. The Rotterdam Conservatorium has partnerships with prominent foreign institutions like the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Lyon , the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki , the Centro Flamenco Paco Peña in Córdoba, the University of New Orleans , the National Centre for Performing Arts in Bombay and the Instituto Cubano de la Música in Havana.
