Several awardees in the Counselor Education program November 20, 2025
UNO Counselor Education Program Earns Statewide Recognition
More than 1,000 counselors gathered in early October in Baton Rouge for the Louisiana Counseling Association Annual Conference, where the University of New Orleans Counselor Education Program was strongly represented by students, faculty, and alumni presenting and serving in leadership roles.  Read more

UNO Alumni Take Center Stage to Celebrate Distinguished Achievement
It was a night of celebration and camaraderie as we honored 2025 Homer L. Hitt Distinguished Alumna of the Year, triple-degree alumna and Entergy executive, Kimberly Cook-Nelson ’94, ’97 & ’99. UNO President Kathy Johnson and UNO Alumni Association President Mike Jackson ‘01 presented the awards and were joined by former US Senator Mary Landrieu and Dottie Belletto, to present the 2025 Norma Jane Sabiston Distinguished Young Alumnus of the Year, Executive Chef and entrepreneur, Edgar “Dook” Chase IV ’09.  Read more

UNO History Professor Marc Landry Wins Baker-Burton Award for His Book "Mountain Battery"
University of New Orleans history professor Marc Landry has received the Baker-Burton Award for the best first book in European history by a member of a Southern college or university. His book, Mountain Battery: The Alps, Water and Power in the Fossil Fuel Age, is published by Stanford University Press.  Read more

Frederick W. Thorne, III (Fred), a graduate from LSUNO’s inaugural 1962 class, was recently recognized by the Cedarburg Artists Guild in Wisconsin with an Honorable Mention 2D in their Annual Juried Exhibit. Jazz at the Sandbar returns to the University of New Orleans for the Fall 2025 series, opening on Wednesday, October 8 with a tribute to Ellis Marsalis, the founder of Jazz Studies at UNO.
