UNO Bioinformatics Lab Wins Global CAID Competitions Twice in a Row
The University of New Orleans Bioinformatics and Machine Learning Laboratory, led by Dr. Md Tamjidul Hoque, has earned international recognition after winning top honors in the Critical Assessment of Intrinsic Disorder (CAID) competitions twice in a row. The achievement underscores UNO’s growing leadership in applying artificial intelligence to biological and biomedical research.  Read more

UNO Alumni Take Center Stage to Celebrate Distinguished Achievement
It was a night of celebration and camaraderie as we honored 2025 Homer L. Hitt Distinguished Alumna of the Year, triple-degree alumna and Entergy executive, Kimberly Cook-Nelson ’94, ’97 & ’99. UNO President Kathy Johnson and UNO Alumni Association President Mike Jackson ‘01 presented the awards and were joined by former US Senator Mary Landrieu and Dottie Belletto, to present the 2025 Norma Jane Sabiston Distinguished Young Alumnus of the Year, Executive Chef and entrepreneur, Edgar “Dook” Chase IV ’09.  Read more

University of New Orleans history professor Marc Landry has received the Baker-Burton Award for the best first book in European history by a member of a Southern college or university. UNO Survey Research Center Releases Findings on 2025 New Orleans Mayoral Election
The University of New Orleans Survey Research Center (SRC) has released the results of a live-interviewer telephone survey of likely voters in Orleans Parish conducted September 20–24, 2025. A total of 409 randomly selected respondents participated. The combined landline and cell phone sample was weighted to reflect the gender, age, race, and council district parameters of the Orleans Parish voter file obtained from the Louisiana Secretary of State.  Read more

UNO Awarded Nearly $2 Million NSF Grant to Support Low-Income STEM Students
The University of New Orleans has received a six-year, $1,998,718 grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to provide scholarships and support services for low-income students pursuing degrees in biological sciences and computer science. The project, Transitioning Low-Income Urban Students into the STEM Economy Through Scholarship Support, is designed to increase retention, graduation and career readiness among academically talented students with demonstrated financial need.  Read more
