The University of New Orleans announces its upcoming season of art, film, music and theater. The fall 2024 and spring 2025 schedules will bring eclectic performances featuring new works and classics.

Musical Excursions will kick off the season on Sept. 26 with critically acclaimed marimba player Ji Su Jung, accompanied by violinist Timothy Chooi, presented by the Curtis Institute. Violinist Lara St. John is the featured spring artist, with other renowned groups including the Tesla Quartet on Oct. 22, performing two important classical works from the first half of the 20th century—“Black Angels” by George Crumb and “Difficult Trains” by Steve Reich. Sybarite 5 String Quartet will grace the stage on March 21. All Musical Excursions performances will be hosted at UNO’s Performing Arts Center in the Recital Hall starting at 7:30 p.m. For a full schedule of dates and seat reservations visit sotaperformances.uno.edu.

UNO Theater will bring some new works, classics and dark comedies to the stage, kicking off with Jen Silverman’s play “The Moors,” opening Oct. 4, followed by New Orleans playwright Rob Florence’s “Holy Wars,” which chronicles the life of Louisiana historical figure Andre Cailloux, opening Nov. 13. Both performances will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center, Robert E. Nims Theater. For tickets and complete season visit sotaperformances.uno.edu.

Jazz at the Sandbar starts Oct. 16 with Jason Stewart’s tribute to Ellis Marsalis and continues every Wednesday for seven weeks through Dec. 4. Featured guest artists will include alumni drummer Jamison Ross and saxophonist Amari Ansari, and many more. Jazz at the Sandbar will have a venue change this season and will be hosted by UNO’s Earl K. Long Library, on the 4th floor in Lounge 410. Performances begin at 7 p.m. with a suggested donation of $10 at the door. Performances are free to UNO students and employees. 

The St. Claude Gallery will be host to Prospect 6 multimedia artist Deborah Jack showing Nov. 2 through Feb. 2. The spring will feature a rotating series of MFA thesis shows with openings during the Bywater’s Second Saturday art walk. Featured artists this spring will include Ashleigh Gaude on Feb. 2, Molly Adam on March 8, Kailee Bal on April 12, Vee Adams on May 5 and Tyler Rosebush on July 6.

The Film Department will host its 18th annual Film Festival November 14-16, presenting three nights of innovative storytelling through short films and showcasing the voices and talents of emerging filmmakers in the New Orleans community and around the globe. Screenings start at 3 p.m. in the UNO Performing Arts Center Recital Hall.
