Edgar Avila, Jr.

Edgar Avila Jr. enters his eighth year at the University of New Orleans, where he serves as Director of Recreation & Intramural Sports. Since joining the Privateer family in December 2018, he has remained committed to enhancing campus life through engaging, inclusive, and student-centered recreational programming.

A native of Metairie and proud two-time UNO graduate, Avila earned a Bachelor's degree in History in 2016 and a Master's degree in Higher Education Administration in 2024. He is deeply invested in student staff mentorship, program growth, and creating meaningful recreational experiences for the UNO community.

Kassie is entering her 18th year at the University of New Orleans, where she serves as the Associate Director of Recreation & Intramural Sports.

Kassie is a New Orleans native. She first started at the University in 2004 as a student, where she worked at the Recreation & Fitness Center while pursuing a degree in Exercise Physiology.


Tumie Mokuena is a second-year MFA Film Production graduate student and recipient of the 2025 Edgar E. Burks Memorial Award. Originally from Johannesburg, South Africa, he serves as the Creative Specialist at the Recreation & Fitness Center, where he manages social media marketing, videography, and photography. 

His favorite part of working at the Rec is being part of a high-energy team that promotes student involvement, wellness, and campus connection. Tumie aspires to become a film director and the owner of a film studio.


Molly Eschete is a senior in Psychology at the University of New Orleans. As a Competitive Sports Specialist, she supports the administration and daily operations of Intramurals and Club Sports, contributing to a positive and engaging recreational experience for the UNO community.

Her favorite part of working at the Recreation & Fitness Center is building connections with a diverse range of students and groups while helping participants enjoy their time at UNO. Molly aspires to pursue a career as a Forensic Psychologist.


Adriana Ortiz de Zarate is a graduate student pursuing a Master of Business Administration. She serves as an Operations Coordinator at the Recreation Center, where her responsibilities include Locker Service, Scheduling, Onboarding, Training, and Student Supervisor Leadership. 

Adriana's favorite part of working at the Rec is supporting the development of others while continuing to grow as a leader herself. She aspires to build a career in higher education.


Jessica Sanders is a senior at the University of New Orleans, pursuing a degree in Anthropology with a minor in Latin and Caribbean Studies. Originally from California, she enjoys traveling and embracing cultural immersion, recently visited Guatemala to study the indigenous language of Kaqchikel and experience a new Latin Culture. She serves as the Aquatics Coordinator at the Recreation & Fitness Center and has worked as a swim instructor since the age of 15, specializing in teaching individuals ranging from 6 months to 64 years old. 

She is proud to speak multiple languages that represent her home and heritage. In swim lessons, her primary focus is on safety, confidence, and achievement.
