Commencement Speaker
Deric Augustine
Deric Augustine, a New Orleans native and alumnus of the University of New Orleans, has been selected as the principal speaker for the University’s Fall 2025 Commencement Ceremony.
Augustine studied theatre and business at UNO and was active in campus life, including athletics and fraternity involvement, which helped develop his leadership and creative drive. After moving to New York for training and then to Los Angeles to pursue acting, his credits include prominent roles such as portraying Muhammad Ali in Godfather of Harlem and a series regular role on The Rookie.
In 2024, Augustine founded Augustine’s Love Foundation in memory of his mother to support families impacted by strokes and brain aneurysms. His selection as speaker reflects his journey of perseverance, creativity, and giving back, values that resonate deeply with graduating students.
