Society for Earth and Environmental Sciences (SEES)
SEES is the EES Department's premier social organization. Membership is open to all UNO students who have an interest in Earth and Environmental Sciences (i.e. it is not reserved exclusively for declared majors). SEES hosts many social events within the department including an annual mineral auction; BBQs, crawfish boils, and the like; a year-end field trip; and more.
Sigma Gamma Epsilon (SGE)
SGE serves as the department's Honor Society. Membership eligibility is based on student GPA and number of EES-specific credit hours earned. SGE members participate in events such as judging of local science fairs, Beach Sweep, the LA Children's Museum's Supersaurus Saturday, and other volunteer opportunities.
American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG)
The UNO Student Chapter of AAPG facilitates communication between UNO-EES students and established industry professionals. Membership is open to all EES students (interest in petroleum geology is not required) and is free (dues sponsored by Chevron Corp). Amongst other things, UNO-AAPG hosts energy-themed guest lectures, collaborates with the New Orleans Geological Society and Southeastern Geophysical Society, and participates in the international "Imperial Barrel Award" competition.
