A message from Dr. Mark Trudell, Chair

The Department of Chemistry at the University of New Orleans excels in research productivity, PhD education, and community outreach. A student-centered approach is utilized to enhance undergraduate educational opportunities, and all chemistry students participate in undergraduate research. In addition, a number of employment opportunities in the department exist for chemistry majors.

The Department offers Bachelor of Science, Master of Science, and Doctor of Philosophy degrees. The American Chemical Society certified BS degree provides a rigorous foundation in chemistry. The MS degree provides advanced training in chemistry with a concentration in any of six specialties: Analytical, Biochemistry, Inorganic, Materials, Organic, or Physical Chemistry. The PhD degree in chemistry, focusing in any of these six specialties, provides training in the most advanced chemical knowledge and research experience. The department has three major research thrusts: Biochemistry, Materials Chemistry, and Medicinal Chemistry and has excellent research productivity. In addition, the program actively includes outreach activities for high school students, high school teachers, and undergraduates. The department has an extensive range of equipment, including advanced instrumentation for nuclear magnetic resonance, mass spectrometry, electron microscopy, and computation.Graduate students in the Ph.D. program are supported by research or teaching assistantships that include an annual salary and tuition. Please contact me, if I can be of assistance.
