Hazing Transparency

The University of New Orleans is committed to providing a safe, supportive environment where students can fully participate in campus life without fear, coercion, or harm. As part of our compliance with Louisiana law and our values as a Privateer community, we maintain high standards for student organizations and leadership.

Hazing Transparency Report

In accordance with Louisiana Revised Statute R.S. 17:1801.1, UNO publicly reports all substantiated findings of hazing involving student organizations. The full report is updated at least twice per year.

Note: There have been no findings of responsibility for hazing-related allegations at UNO in the past seven years. Any reports received have either been unsubstantiated, resolved informally, or found not to meet the legal or university definitions of hazing.

Required Hazing Prevention Education

To participate in a recognized student organization at UNO, all students must complete at least two hours of hazing prevention education each academic year, in compliance with Louisiana Act 382. Students can meet this requirement by:

  • Completing the UNO Hazing Prevention Course in Canvas (1 hr)

  • Completing hazing prevention reflection activities in Suitable (1 hr)

Additional opportunities for hazing prevention education may be offered by the Office of Student Involvement & Leadership. For questions or more information, please contact sil@uno.edu.

Privateer Passage Badge Requirement

All students must earn the Hazing Prevention Certified badge in Privateer Passage each year to maintain eligibility for student organization involvement. This badge reflects completion of all required trainings and supports a culture of accountability and care.

Why it Matters Privateers don’t haze—we lift each other up. You now have the knowledge and tools to recognize hazing, take action, and support a campus culture where every student belongs.

Learning Outcomes

  • Demonstrate your commitment to community care and respect.
Identify behaviors that may constitute hazing.
Know how to report concerns and access campus resources.
