About

Dennis R. McSeveney is Professor Emeritus of Sociology, Dean Emeritus of the College of Liberal Arts, and Associate Provost Emeritus. Professor McSeveney earned a B.S. in Mathematics from John Carroll University, an M.A. in Sociology (1971) and a Ph.D. in Sociology (1972) from Emory University. He joined the UNO faculty in 1972, chaired the Department of Sociology from 1979 – 1981, served as Associate Dean of the College of Liberal Arts from 1981 – 1986, Dean of the College of Liberal Arts from 1986 – 1990, and as Associate Provost from 1998 to 2008. He became a Research Fellow in the Social Science Research Center at Mississippi State University in 2005.

Dr. McSeveney has published in a number of areas of sociology including academic leadership, disasters, health and social behavior, and communications. His current interests are the sociology of higher education and quantitative research methods. He has served as President of the Mid-South Sociological Association, as a member of the Southern Sociological Society's Executive Council, and currently serves as a member of the Council of Alpha Kappa Delta, the International Sociology Honor Society and as AKD's Representative to the Association of College Honor Societies.
