Four University of New Orleans baseball student-athletes have been named to the Southland Conference All-Academic Team, the league announced Friday. Bryce Calloway, Grant Edwards, Alexander Saunier, and Matt Gonzalez were honored for their achievements in the classroom and on the field.
Calloway, a First Team selection, posted a 3.5 GPA as an interdisciplinary studies major. The standout two-way player also earned All-American honors from two publications and was named First Team ABCA All-Region after hitting .390 with 18 home runs and recording 11 saves.
Saunier, a biological sciences major with a 4.0 GPA, received the conference’s F.L. McDonald Postgraduate Scholarship. He appeared in 46 games this season, batting .277 and scoring 34 runs. He will attend LSU School of Dentistry.
Gonzalez, a senior interdisciplinary studies major, held a 3.9 GPA and batted .336 on the year. He was named Southland Hitter of the Week in March and recorded the first five-hit game by a Privateer since 2019.
Edwards earned Second Team All-Southland honors and finished the season with 92 strikeouts—second most in the league. He maintained a 3.8 GPA as an interdisciplinary studies major.
This the most in a single season for New Orleans since joining the Southland Conference. To date, 20 Privateers have earned All-Academic recognition.
