In a demonstration of academic excellence, 12 of 14 University of New Orleans healthcare management program seniors scored in the top 1% on the Peregrine healthcare administration exam, a national benchmark exam used by the Association for Undergraduate Programs in Healthcare Administration.
“Their stellar performance of 73-91% on the Peregrine exam—a challenging assessment with an average score range of 55–60%--is a testament to their hard work, in-depth knowledge and dedication to mastering the foundational areas of their degree,” said Scott Phillips, interim director of the undergraduate program in healthcare management. “This achievement not only honors these individual students but also reflects the program's strength of curriculum and instruction.”
The Peregrine exam is designed to rigorously assess a student’s retained knowledge through a random selection of questions from a comprehensive bank of over 200 questions per topic.
“These are incredible scores," said Randy Kearns, interim dean of the Henry Bernstein College of Business Administration. “This remarkable success resonates beyond the UNO campus. Community members, prospective students and industry stakeholders can take pride in the fact that our program consistently cultivates professionals who are well-equipped with the knowledge and skills essential for excellence in the field.”
According to Phillips, the field of healthcare management offers promising career prospects in metro New Orleans, around the state and nationwide. The job market in this sector is characterized by hundreds of thousands of high-quality national positions and strong job security, with local employers actively seeking graduates who demonstrate not only academic proficiency but also the practical insights needed to lead and innovate in healthcare settings, Phillips said.
The healthcare management program at UNO is the only Association for Undergraduate Programs in Healthcare Administration-certified program in the greater New Orleans area and the only degree program both AACSB-accredited and AUPHA-certified in Louisiana or Mississippi.
