Frequently asked questions

1.) Am I eligible for benefits? If so, which plans?

a. Employees who work full time (at least 30 hours per week) are eligible for insurances. For a summary of benefits please click here .

2.) Am I eligible to enroll in a Retirement plan?

a. Full time unclassified, classified, and full time faculty are mandated to pay into a state retirement. These employees do not pay social security tax. More information available here .

b. All employee types, both full time and part time are eligible to enroll in UNO’s 403B or the State’s 457 plans. These plans are voluntary and can be enrolled in at any time.

3.) When will I be able to use my insurances?

a. If you enroll within first 30 days of employment, coverage will be effective the first of the month following your first full calendar month of employment.

Example: Date of Hire = August 20th, Effective Date = October 1 st.

4.) When are UNO employees paid?

a. Unclassified and Classified Employees are paid biweekly every other Friday via direct deposit. Faculty are paid once a month, the last day of the month.

5.) Am I eligible for paid time off?

a. Full time unclassified and classified positions are eligible to accrue both vacation and sick leave based on how many hours they work per pay period.

6.) Does UNO offer a tuition discount for its employees?

a. Yes, UNO offers tuition discount for eligible full time employees. Please read policy AP for more information.

7.) Do UNO employees use a standard email signature?

a. Yes, please visit the University Marketing Website to learn more about email signatures, business cards, and other stationary.
