Freshman Admission Requirements
In-State Freshmen Requirements
If you are an in-state student applying for freshman admission, you must meet the following requirements for admission:
*Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the University of New Orleans will admit in-state first time freshman, who apply on or after April 1st, 2020, based solely on the Louisiana Core 4 GPA. For the Fall 2021, Summer 2021, and Spring 2021 terms, applicants with a 2.5+ core GPA who do not meet test score requirements, or do not submit test scores will be admitted based on core GPA alone. - Minimum 18 ACT English ACT (500 SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing)
AND
- Minimum 19 ACT Math (510 SAT Math)
AND
- Complete the Louisiana Board of Regents' high school Core 4 curriculum (19 units)
AND
- Minimum 2.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale
Additionally, IN-STATE freshman must meet ONE of the following requirements:
- High School Core GPA: Louisiana Core 4 curriculum, GPA of at least 2.5
OR
- ACT/SAT: ACT composite of at least 23 (1140 SAT)
Out-of-State & Home School Applicants
If you are an out-of-state of state or home-schooled student applying for freshman admission, you must meet the following requirements for admission:
- Minimum 18 ACT English ACT (500 SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing)
AND
- Minimum 19 ACT Math (510 SAT Math)
AND
- Minimum 2.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale
Additionally, OUT-OF-STATE freshman must meet ONE of the following requirements:
- Meet the in-state freshman requirements above, including completing all 19 units of the Louisiana Board of Regents' high school Core 4 curriculum
OR
- Successfully complete 17 or 18 credits from the Core 4 curriculum with a core grade point average of 2.5 AND have a 23 ACT Composite (1140 SAT)
OR
- Minimum 26 ACT Composite.
* All applicants are encouraged to apply. The University of New Orleans may admit students not meeting all requirements. In such cases, the admission decision will be affected by the student's potential for degree completion and the need to enhance the university's demographically diverse student population. Some factors to be considered may include age, experience, ethnic background, and creative talent.
Privateer Pathways Program: Freshmen applicants (in-state or out-of-state) who do not meet the above test score requirements may be eligible for provisional admission. Students are encouraged to apply to learn more about their eligibility and alternative testing options.
International Applicants: will need to refer to the list of international requirements for minimum test scores and GPA requirements.
