Performance

Remember to complete the application form and include it with your emailed materials or print it out and bring it to your in-person audition.

Undergraduate Instrumental

  • Perform a minimum of two works that demonstrate your technical and expressive abilities, selected from the standard solo or etude literature. The two works should total at least 10 minutes.
  • In addition to the two works, include a recording of you performing the following scales: B-flat, E-flat, A, and E major; full range of instrument; in eighth-notes at M. M. (quarter note value) = 120.

Undergraduate Voice

  • Prepare two pieces (art song or aria) of contrasting nature and perform them in their original language. The pieces you select should explore your most successful classical vocal repertoire. Sing your best piece first.
  • If you feel your performance of the required pieces does not fully demonstrate the integration and limits of your full-voiced pitch range, you have the option of adding a series of vocalises to your recording or in-person audition.

Undergraduate Piano/Keyboard

  • Perform two works in contrasting styles by memory that demonstrate your technical and expressive abilities. The two works should total at least 10 minutes.
  • The repertoire should be at least at a level of difficulty similar to Bach's "Two-Part Inventions" or "Preludes and Fugues," any Mozart Sonata, or early Beethoven work similar in difficulty to "Sonata in C minor, Op, 13 (Pathetique)," or a work by Chopin such as a Nocturne, Prelude or Waltz.
  • For online auditions: In addition to the two works, include a video recording of you performing at least 4 scales and arpeggios of your choice a minimum of 4 octaves hands together, ascending and descending in parallel motion. Two scales must be in major and two must be harmonic minor (not C major or C minor). Suggested keys are: E and Eb Major: g and f harmonic minor in eighth-notes at M. M. (quarter note value) = 120.
  • For onsite auditions: You will be asked to perform your two selected works as well as the scales and arpeggios noted above.
