FILM SEASON

FILM UNO in the School of the Arts hosts a student run film festival. The mission of the festival is to give the students an opportunity to screen their work in an authentic theatrical environment and compete in a judging festival at no cost. It allows students a place to invite cast, crew as well as friends and family to see their films. Students get to learn how to put on a festival, including admission of films, organization of the festival, the technical aspect of building a festival screening schedule and using a 4K projector and server, soliciting prizes and sponsorships, promotion of the festival to viewers and well as filmmakers, operations of a concession stand, using social media and other internet platforms. Free and open to the public the festival looks to engage film fans in the larger New Orleans area. It is also a chance to invite high school students to experience a free event and see student work and what the UNO Film program has to offer. In addition to the film festival the Film department also hosts a directors screening series which invites prominent film directors and producers to come screen new works and speak about their process to the community and UNO Film students.
