Interdisciplinary Studies
Enrich Your Future Through Knowledge
The IDS staff works with students to design an Integrative Learning Plan (ILP) that allows students to make connections between separate disciplines as a way of creating academic depth through the comparison and contrasts of ideas and their applications.
Intended to provide versatility for students, the program focuses on students who desire the flexibility of a curriculum designed to balance work and life responsibilities with educational opportunities. The IDS program allows students to develop a unique learning experience that helps meet individual and professional goals.
What can I do with an IDS Degree?
Mission Statement
Interdisciplinary Studies (IDS) is a rigorous and unique degree program that offers students the versatility to design academic plans through the process of integrative learning. Indeed, Integrative Learning Plans (ILP) and personal academic advising are the hallmarks of the Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies (BIS) degree program. Working closely with their advisors, IDS students develop ILPs comprised of two- or three-discipline study plans that integrate multicultural and multidisciplinary perspectives. To meet UNO students’ diverse social, cultural, and educational needs, IDS offers both on-campus and online credit-earning opportunities.
Service Learning
Incoming freshmen and current students can enhance their studies at the UNO through community service. Also, visiting students from other universities can spend a semester in New Orleans doing something truly significant through service learning at UNO.
