Latin American and Caribbean Studies

Latin American and Caribbean Studies offerings at the University of New Orleans include Spanish language, social sciences, humanities, business and science classwork. Students may pursue either a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies (BA/IS) major with a concentration in Latin American and Caribbean Studies or a minor which can be combined with any other major.

BA/IS Concentration Latin American and Caribbean Studies

The BA/IS concentration in Latin American & Caribbean Studies is designed to produce students with a broad and deep understanding of the history, culture, politics, and society of Latin America and the Caribbean region.

The concentration prepares students for careers in international business, law, economic development, journalism, education, and social services. The Latin American & Caribbean Studies concentration also provides an excellent foundation for graduate work in Latin American & Caribbean Studies or within a particular social science discipline.

Interdisciplinary Minor in Latin American and Caribbean Studies

The BAIS Program in the College of Liberal Arts also administers the minor in Latin American and Caribbean Studies. The minor signifies that students have a fundamental understanding of this part of the world and grounding in the Spanish language. Classes in the social sciences, humanities, business, and science—all with a focus on Latin America and the Caribbean—are offered on a regular basis.
