Important Information Regarding Excess Aid Refunds for Fall 2021
The University of New Orleans recognizes that students may be going through significant hardships at this time and want to assure students we are processing excess refunds from pending financial aid and scholarships as quickly as possible.
The US Dept. of Education and the Louisiana Office of Student Financial Aid (LOSFA) require universities to confirm attendance and enrollment hours for all students receiving federal and state aid, exemptions, waivers, scholarships, and TOPS. This process is not allowed to begin until after the census date (14th class day), which has been rescheduled due to Hurricane Ida. These federal and state required reviews cannot be waived or expedited for a student. The new Fall 2021 census date is September 16, 2021. Enrollment and attendance will be reviewed for all federal and state aid programs, UNO scholarships, waivers, and exemptions beginning September 17, 2021. This process takes about a week to complete for all students.
Once the required reviews are completed and attendance is confirmed in all classes, student aid will authorize for disbursement to their UNO student account for processing. The Bursar will send an email to students once their refund has been processed. Students who have set up direct deposit through their account will receive refunds the earliest. Please be sure to check that your direct deposit and/or mailing address is correct in WS. The Bursar’s Office anticipates the first batch of refunds will go out to eligible students by the first week of October as long as your professors have verified your attendance. If attendance cannot be confirmed, the financial aid office will contact the student via their UNO email account.
Please remain safe, and we wish you the very best as you resume your fall classes.
