Message from the President
Dear Colleagues,
December is upon us and while fall classes and the first phase of the LSU transition planning are winding down, grading papers and projects, administering and assessing finals, and helping our students to navigate smoothly to the spring semester are ramping up. And then for some, there are holidays to prepare for….it really is a lot, and I hope that everyone can plan on at least a bit of down time after the semester ends.
There is so much to be hopeful about as we wind down the fall semester. There is an incredible amount of support for the University of New Orleans among leaders in our community, and there is tremendous excitement about the opportunities to be afforded through our transition back to the LSU system. These opportunities will enable us to strengthen our enrollments and improve our facilities, as well as deepen our engagement with our community.
Hopefully you will be able to take at least a short break next Wednesday morning as we resume our tradition of coming together to celebrate the holiday season. Please join us in the ballroom of the University Center from 9-10:30 to enjoy each other’s company as well as some refreshments.
I also hope that you might consider spending a bit of time next Friday and Saturday (Dec 12 and 13) to help support our community through a food drive to be held here on campus, coordinated through the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. If you are interested in volunteering, please sign up here. Community engagement is such an important component of our mission and it is so important for us to partner with terrific organizations, such as the Hispanic Chamber, in helping to give back to our community.
With UNO Pride,
Kathy E. Johnson, Ph.D.
President, University of New Orleans
