Homecoming Celebration:
University of New Orleans Plans a Week of Fun

Homecoming Week The 2014 Homecoming Celebration at the University of New Orleans includes events in three sports, presents a Royal Homecoming Court, honors a local technology leader and centers around the return of two College World Series Baseball Teams for the New Orleans Privateers Baseball season home opener against top 3 team LSU.

"Homecoming is about reconnecting. It's a chance to bring the whole community - alumni and friends in the community, students, faculty and staff - together to have fun and celebrate the University that's given so much to them and to the region at large," said Pam Meyer, executive director of the UNO International Alumni Association. "Relocating and reconnecting with our alumni is the Alumni Association's top priority. And what better opportunity is there than Homecoming?"

Homecoming at UNO this year runs from Monday, Feb. 10 through Sunday, Feb. 16 with a host of events taking place on campus and around the city, Meyer said. Students, faculty, administrators and alumni have carefully planned activities designed to inspire Privateer Pride and foster bonds between students and alumni.

On the student front, a campus-wide coordination team, led by the University's Office of Student Involvement and Leadership and UNO Student Activities Council, are working hard to ensure that this year's Homecoming is the best ever and brings something for everyone.

"2014 UNO Homecoming Week is jammed packed full of events to bring UNO faculty, staff, students and alumni together to celebrate the institution's strong academics, Privateer Pride of athletics, uniqueness of our campus body and the love of our city," said Dale O'Neill, director of the University's Office of Student Involvement and Leadership.

"Homecoming week is my favorite time of year because at UNO, school spirit is more than just supporting a sports team," said undergraduate student Devonte Spencer. "In addition to supporting our athletics, we also celebrate our outstanding academics and the tight community that makes UNO truly unique."

"I can't think of a better way to unify the UNO student body and bring and back alumni than UNO Homecoming Week!" said undergraduate student Darius Miner, while fellow student leader Ryan Gilbert said: "I can't wait to show those Tigers what the Heartbeat of the Crescent City is really about! GO UNO!"

Save-the-date cards are also currently hitting alumni mailboxes around the city and special white tents will greet UNO Alumni at the UNO Baseball Season Home Opener at Zephyr Field.

"The Association wants everyone to feel welcome, so they're planning diverse festivities from a Greek Pre-Basketball Game Social, to a special cocktail reception honoring our 2013 Homer L. Hitt Distinguished Alumnus Bobby Savoie to a Tailgate before our Baseball Home Opener," said Meyer.

"Their goal is to have something for everyone. Homecoming should be part reunion and enjoying old friendships and memories, but it's also a chance for us to build pride and re-engage our community in celebration of UNO's future."

This year, Homecoming Week events include:
