A recent exhibit featuring artists from Houston's leading art galleries was such a hit that the University of New Orleans St. Claude Gallery has plans to host a second opening this weekend.

"Just then, and Again" features works by lending artists Dana Frankfort, Geoff Hippenstiel, Shane Tolbert, Brad Tucker, Jim Nolan and Nathan Green. Their work is regularly shown at Inman Gallery, Art Palace, and Devin Borden Gallery in Houston. "Just Then, and Again" provides audiences a small survey of contemporary abstract art being produced in the South, by artists who have national and international standing.

"Their modes of abstraction, including the virtuoso and calculated mark - mostly on canvas - are a means of conveying thought on a two-dimensional support," said Kathy Rodriguez, gallery director and UNO fine arts instructor. "This group endeavor is a snapshot moment of work in their practice, and in the larger Houston art-making scene."

A reception is slated for 6 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, March 2 at the gallery, located at 2429 St. Claude Ave., New Orleans. A handful of the artists will be on hand. The exhibit runs through Sunday.
