UNO President Throws Out the First Pitch at Zephyr Field

University of New Orleans President Peter J. Fos threw out the first pitch last night at a baseball game at Zephyr Field -- then joined members of the UNO Founders Day Club to watch the red hot New Orleans Zephyrs beat the Sacramento River Cats 2-1.

Fos was joined at the pitcher's mound by UNO Athletic Director Derek Morel, who also threw out a pitch. Both men were greeted with cheers from the crowd.

Prior to the game, the UNO Founders Day Club held a private reception to pay honor to UNO's original "slugger" Homer L. Hitt in Suite One of Zephyr Field, said Bobby Eason, professor emeritus and vice president of the club. Proceeds from the event will be donated to the Homer L. Hitt Distinguished Lecture Series.

The fundraiser was co-sponsored by the New Orleans Zephyrs, the UNO Founders Day Club and the University of New Orleans. Joining the fun was host and former UNO head baseball coach Ron Maestri, who once led the Privateers to the College World Series and is now chief operating officer and executive director of the Zephyrs.
