UNO Pianists Plan to Radiate the Eighty-Eights at 24th Annual New Orleans Piano Competition

Eight UNO musicians – both current students and alumni – will take part in the 24th annual New Orleans International Piano Competition's kickoff concert Saturday.  The show, entitled "Piano x Four and More," features selections from well-known symphonic works arranged for four grand pianos and is slated for 7 p.m. on July 21 at Loyola University's Roussel Hall.

Several groups will perform, including two groups of four from UNO.  They include alumni Maja Bahat, Mirka Jichova, Candice Holley and Tommy Zanca, who is now a graduate student. Current students Barbara Wizer, Elena Ferguson and Matt Occhipinti will also perform, as will Robin Williams, professor of music.

One UNO group will play The Four-Keyboard Concerto in A Minor by Bach and an arrangement of Saint-Saens’ Dance Macabre, and the other will perform Allegro Deciso from Handel’s Water Music and Chopin’s Military Polonaise.

Tickets are $10 and may be purchased at the door. For more information about the week-long competition, which runs July 21-July 29, visit:
