UNO Launches 'Follow Me 2 UNO' Social Media Campaign

The University of New Orleans today launched “Follow Me 2 UNO,” a social media campaign aimed at engaging and recruiting prospective students. UNO students Emily Srofe and Brandan Bonds are at the center of the initiative in which they will try to enlist as many friends on Facebook and followers on Twitter to offer a first-person account of the life of a UNO student.

Srofe, an interdisciplinary studies junior from Slidell, and Bonds, a political science junior from Baton Rouge, will post status updates, photos and videos throughout their daily routines to provide an authentic and informative glimpse at college life on the lakefront and in New Orleans.

“Social media is how the younger generation communicates these days. It’s an easy way to see what college life is really like instead of having TV shows that have all the stereotypical stuff,” Srofe said.

According to Bonds, many people will be surprised to learn that UNO has a vibrant campus life with a number of opportunities to get involved.

"We have over 120 clubs and organizations and the best thing about it is if there’s not something you want to join on campus, you can start your own organization. It’s easy to do. You always have a lot of support and resources from our student affairs office,” Bonds said.

In addition to engaging prospective students through social media, Bonds and Srofe are eager to connect with other college students, parents and alumni who are interested in the University. The students are the subject of “Follow Me 2 UNO” television commercials which will air on local cable stations and in area movie theaters.
