UNO Alumnus and Geocent CEO Savoie to Address Engineering Symposium

University of New Orleans alumnus Bobby Savoie will be the keynote speaker at the 2012 Southeast Symposium on Contemporary Engineering Topics on Friday, October 26 at 8:00 a.m. at the Lindy Boggs Conference Center in the UNO Research and Technology Park. One of the goals of the symposium is to bridge the gap between universities and the engineering industry.

UNO President Peter J. Fos will offer his own remarks and introduce Savoie, the chief executive officer of Geocent, one of the largest information technology and engineering services companies headquartered in New Orleans. Since it was founded in 2008, Geocent has grown more than 300 percent and added more than 200 IT and engineering professionals.

In 2004, after a 28-year career as an engineer and chief executive officer, Savoie decided to go back to school to pursue his doctorate. In 2009 he received a Ph.D. in engineering and applied sciences with a specialization in engineering management from UNO. He also has an MBA from Loyola University and a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering from LSU.

Savoie has received many awards and honors including NASA’s Distinguished Public Service Medal and Laureate in the Junior Achievement Business Hall of Fame.

Registration for the symposium is $145 per person. To register, visit http://sscet.net.
