Arts Administration Students Take Theater Tour

A group of students in the University of New Orleans graduate program in arts administration got a first-hand look at the New Orleans theater scene during a venue tour, which featured stops at four different theaters. Tony Micocci’s theater overview class toured the Contemporary Arts Center, the Saenger Theatre, Le Petit Theatre and Anthony Bean Community Theater.

In addition to visiting the venues, the students met with representatives from the theaters to learn how the facilities are programmed and managed. In the case of the Saenger and Le Petite Theatre, students were treated to a behind-the-scenes look at two theaters that are undergoing renovations and will reopen with great fanfare in 2013.

“To my knowledge, this is the first time such a project has taken place,” said Micocci, assistant director of the graduate program in arts administration. “It is an outgrowth of our program’s determination to have our training be as experientially based as possible, and to immerse our students in the real world of cultural management.”

Audubon Limousine, a subsidiary of Cajun Encounters, Inc., sponsored the tour and provided transportation for the three-hour tour.
