UNO's Driftwood Takes Home Two Prizes from Elite Regional Editorial Competition

The University of New Orleans student newspaper Driftwood celebrates two big wins this week with prizes from an elite regional editorial competition.

Editor-in-Chief Edith Talley learned today that she received two prizes this weekend in the 2013 Louisiana Mississippi Associated Press Managing Editors awards competition, hosted April 12-13 at the University of Mississippi at Oxford. The Driftwood columns that won prizes were for editorial columns that she wrote during the 2012-2013 academic year.

A column entitled "Southland Conference A Win for UNO Athletics" won first prize in the category COLLEGE Writing: Breaking/Spot Sports and received the judges comment "Comprehensive coverage of a big day for UNO sports."

A column entitled "Diversity: Leading By Example" won second place in the category COLLEGE Opinion: Personal Columns.
