UNO Fine Arts Department Hosts Internationally Recognized Artist Dana Frankfort

Dana FrankfortInternationally recognized artist Dana Frankfort visits the University of New Orleans next week as part of a Visiting Artist series hosted by the University's acclaimed Fine Arts Department.

She will speak at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, January 22 in the University's Fine Arts Department, Room 118, according to Kathy Rodriguez, a UNO fine arts instructor and manager of the UNO St. Claude Gallery.

Frankfort, who has been represented by Bellwether Gallery in New York, has shown her work in the city's Greenberg Van Doren Gallery, Zach Feuer Gallery, Colette Blanchard Gallery, Moti Hasson Gallery, Cynthia Broan Gallery, John Connelly Presents, Postmasters Gallery, Gavin Brown Enterprises-Passerby and Mixed Greens Gallery, among others, as well as The Jewish Museum. She is represented in Houston by Inman Gallery.

Frankfort has also shown her work in Abstract America at the Saatchi Collection in London, hosted a one-person exhibit at Galleria Glance in Torino, Italy, and participated in other exhibitions in Brussels, Belgium and Berlin, Germany, Rodriguez said.

She also served as a Core Fellow in the Glassell School of Art's Master of Fine Arts program in Houston, enjoyed residencies at Yaddo Residency in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. and Ox-Bow Artists-in-Residence in Saugatuck, Mich. and received a John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellowship.

Frankfort's work has been written about in numerous publications, including Artforum, Art in America, The New York Times and The New Yorker, according to Rodriguez. She received her Master of Fine Arts degree from Yale University in 1997, attended Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in 1997 and received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Art History from Brandeis University in 1995. She lives in Brooklyn, N.Y. and teaches at Boston University.
