The University of New Orleans Jazz @ the Sandbar Spring 2013 series resumes this week with Wednesday performances by pianist Mulgrew Miller and Victor Atkins' student combo. On Thursday, Miller returns to campus to teach a master class.

Veteran jazz pianist Mulgrew Miller has toured and made recordings with ensembles including Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, the Woody Shaw Quintet, the Mercer Ellington Orchestra and the Tony Williams Quintet. Miller has been featured on more than 400 recordings. He made his first recording as a leader for producer Orrin Keepnews' former label, Landmark, and later recorded on the RCA Novus label.

Miller tours throughout the world. He was invited in 1997 to tour Japan with a group of 10 pianists called "100 Gold Fingers," an assembly of some of the most prestigious names in jazz piano including Tommy Flanagan, Ray Bryant and Kenny Barron.

Miller, a native of Greenwood, Miss., is also a member of the Contemporary Piano Ensemble, a unique group consisting of four pianists performing with a rhythm section.

Mulgrew Miller will present a master class at 3 p.m. on Thursday, April 4, in UNO's Performing Arts Center, Room 103. This clinic is free and open to the public.
