UNO’s Sigma Kappa Sorority Chapter Takes Home Multiple Awards from National Convention

Members of the University of New Orleans chapter of Sigma Kappa Sorority have much to smile about this month, having brought home multiple awards from the sorority’s national conference.

The awards were given at Sigma Kappa Sorority’s 85th Annual Convention, held July 11-15 at The Woodlands, Tex., outside Houston. All the awards granted helped to exemplify the sorority’s goals of providing women with lifelong opportunities and support for social, intellectual and spiritual development so that they can positively impact their communities.

Sigma Kappa Sorority’s most prestigious awards are the Standards of Excellence Award, presented to those chapters who meet all of the Sigma Kappa minimum standards and above.

The standards include high performance in areas such as: membership, financial management, philanthropy, scholarship, public relations, ritual, leadership, new member education, alumnae relations, and campus involvement.

The UNO chapter won Two Stars of Excellence, meaning that members had achieved the second level of excellence on a Three Stars scale.

The UNO chapter also won an Academic Excellence Award, which recognizes those chapters who have a record of high academic achievement including obtaining a GPA of 3.0 or above for both initiated members and new members.

The UNO chapter also took home the sorority’s Gold Circle Award for donating between $2,500-5,000 in annual giving contributions to the Sigma Kappa Foundation.

Last, the UNO chapter took home the sorority’s Louise Helen Coburn Award, given to the collegiate and alumnae chapter who have worked together for Sigma Kappa in the most effective manner for the award period.
