UNO Foundation Donates Scholarship Funds to University

University of New Orleans President Peter J. Fos announced that the UNO Foundation will make a twofold gift to the University: a one-time $1 million gift for the support of scholarships and academic programs for UNO’s current fiscal year as well as an annual $50,000 UNO Foundation Scholarship beginning in the next fiscal year.

The gift will be made possible by the pending sale of a building in Lee Circle to a company operated by Mrs. Phyllis Taylor, chairman and chief executive officer of Taylor Energy Company. The property, which had been leased to Taylor Energy Company, is located at 944 St. Charles Avenue.

“Our top priority is to attract and retain talented students at UNO,” said UNO President Peter J. Fos. “These gifts from the UNO Foundation are enormously important in supporting that goal. We are thankful for the foundation’s efforts. Especially during these challenging budgetary times, gifts like these can help the University maintain academic quality and continue to draw first-rate students.”

“The UNO Foundations annually provide more than $1 million in direct support of the University’s operating budget, in addition to fundraising for endowments and restricted gifts,” said UNO Foundations President Patrick Gibbs. “This special gift is in addition to that recurring annual support. We know that it will make a difference.”

The UNO family of foundations provides a broad range of services to support the teaching, research, service and economic development missions of the University of New Orleans. The two primary foundations are the University of New Orleans Foundation and the University of New Orleans Research and Technology Foundation.
