Privateer Hoops Hosting Second Annual Po-Boy Tipoff Dinner

Building momentum as the 2012-13 season gets near, the New Orleans men's basketball program will host its second annual 'Po-Boy Tip-Off Dinner' at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 7 at Koz's Lakeview restaurant.

Located at 515 Harrison Ave., Koz's is owned by Gary 'Koz' Gruenig and his son, Max. Both are longtime supporters of UNO and the Privateer athletic department.

“This is an awesome annual event that we look forward to every year," said head men's basketball coachMark Slessinger. "Koz, Max, and the Bakery are a big part of many former UNO students and athletes' college experience."

"We are excited to be able have this event there again.”

In addition to Slessinger previewing the team, several of his student-athletes will be in attendance to meet-and-greet with the UNO fan base. Schedule cards will also be available at the event, in addition to basketball season ticket brochures.

“We are in such an exciting part of the year with the season tipping off November 9 versus San Jose State,” said Slessinger. “Our team and staff are working each day to improve and make as big of strides as possible to get better.”

Last year's event set the bar high as there was not an empty chair at Koz's restaurant. The second-year Privateer head coach hopes to duplicate the effort this year.

“Last year we had such a great turnout I hope that we can pack the house again for another great night,” said Slessinger.

The dinner will start at 7 p.m. with a donation of $20 accepted at the door.

UNO will officially open the season on Nov. 9 at Lakefront Arena against SJSU with an 8 p.m. tip time. The contest is the backend of a doubleheader with the women's basketball team, which will face Northwestern State at 6 p.m.

The season-opening game will feature a 'Privateer Fan Fest' which will include fun and games, in addition to live music and various vendors. Fans are encouraged to set up their own tailgate within the 'Tailgate Village' at the event, which gets underway at 4:30 p.m.
