University of New Orleans President Peter J. Fos Invites the UNO Community to Walk for Education on Saturday

University of New Orleans President Peter J. Fos has asked that the University joining him and other members of the UNO community in the 25th Anniversary UNCF Walk for Education near Audubon Park on Saturday. The walk is hosted by the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) and raises scholarship money for students,

UNO has created one large team that will walk in this event, according to an invitation from the President’s Office. Faculty, staff, students and friends are invited to participate. An invitation e-mail went out on Wednesday to all faculty, staff and students.

President Fos will be present at the walk in support of the scholarships UNCF provides to UNO students, he said. Within the last five years, the UNCF has provided more than $16,000 in scholarships to four select UNO students, according to data compiled by the UNO Division of Student Affairs.

The 5K walk takes place at Audubon Riverview near Audubon Park and the Audubon Zoo, with rolling starts at 8:45 a.m. for bikers, 9 a.m. for runners and 9:01 a.m. for walkers. The UNO team will meet for a team photograph at 8:15 a.m. under a UNO tent in the team assembly area.

The walk officially ends at 11 a.m., which is when the fun begins at the finish line with award presentations, minimassages, inflatable bounce house, inflatable obstacle course, face painting, craft tables and more.

Registration is $30 for adults and $15 for youth. Those interested can register online now through UNCF or at the door at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday.
