Mark Your Calendars: UNO Night at Zephyr Field

University of New Orleans President Peter J. Fos will throw the first pitch next week at a baseball game at Zephyr Field, as the red hot New Orleans Zephyrs do battle with the Sacramento River Cats, said Bobby Eason, professor emeritus and vice president of the UNO Founders Day Club, encouraging all UNO Privateers to attend.

The minor league baseball game is set for 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 14 at Zephyrs Field. Individual tickets may be purchased for $9 to $15 at the door or on the website of the New Orleans Zephyrs.

A reception to pay honor to UNO's original "slugger" Homer L. Hitt will take place at 5:30 p.m. in Suite One of Zephyr Field. Entrance to the reception is $100 per ticket and all proceeds will be donated to the Homer L. Hitt Distinguished Lecture Series. The fund-raiser is co-sponsored by the New Orleans Zephyrs, the UNO Founders Day Club and the University of New Orleans.

In addition to "meeting and greeting" the UNO leaders, host and former head coach Ron Maestri, who once led the Privateers to glory, has promised to provide “copious amounts of the best ballpark food and beverage in AAA baseball,” Eason said. Maestri is now chief operating officer and executive director of the Zephyrs.

“Guests are encouraged to enjoy Suite One hospitalities for the reception and then enjoy Suite One for the game for as long as they want to stay,” Eason said. “Tickets can be bought at Suite One. Just mention the Hitt Reception at the will-call window and they will give directions to the suite.”
