Privateer Camp – Camp Wesley (July 31-August 2)
The out of town camp is a three day two night off-campus freshmen leadership retreat collaboratively planned through the Division of Student Affairs and Office of Admissions. It is located at a retreat center 2.5 hours from New Orleans. During this retreat, incoming students learn about the wide range of involvement activities and resources that the university offers. Most importantly, incoming students will learn key strategies on how to enhance their leadership skills and successfully transition into the college environment. This three day retreat will be packed with ice breakers, team-building activities, student panels and workshops focusing on UNO traditions, major exploration, personal leadership styles, team-dynamics, cultural competency, conflict resolution and the college transition, all led by student staff or “Krewe Leaders.”
Future Privateers attend fun and interactive workshops where they learn about things like the history of the university, tips on succeeding in college, and the New Orleans community. These workshops are led by the different student counselors, or “Krewe Leaders.”

Throughout the day will be icebreakers, team-building activities, Krewe Olympics, and outdoor activities including: swimming, pedal boating, and much more! At night, there will be dance mixers, camp fires, games, and much more!

Privateer Camp – Explore and Serve (July 19–21)
Explore and Serve is a three-day, two-night freshmen leadership retreat focusing on service and engagement in the UNO and New Orleans community. Freshmen will stay on UNO’s campus and participate in a variety of leadership oriented sessions, a community service project in New Orleans, and have the opportunity to explore the unique culture and sites of New Orleans. If you want to learn more about yourself, while giving back to the community, this is the project for you. Freshmen will also have the opportunity to create new friendships with other incoming students and learn more about the campus community through activities, sessions, and ice breakers all led by student leaders called “Krewe Leaders.”
