Residential Life Student Staff

Resident Assistants at the University of New Orleans

Your Resident Assistant (RA) will be one of the first people you meet upon arrival to your floor. RAs are students just like you who work to create a better living and learning environment in your hall by providing programming, building community, and being available to you.  As a current student, your RA is a great resource for you, full of helpful tips and friendly advice. The RA’s also monitor maintenance requests and hall security protocols. Each hall is also staffed with an Area Coordinator who is a professional staff member who supervises the RA’s and the building, also serving as another resource for you. Resident Assistants and Area Coordinators work together with the Director of Residential Life.

Complete an Application for Fall 2021 Resident Assistant positions now; application due by February 22, 2021.
Candidates must participate in Interview Process

Anticipated Mandatory Resident Assistant Training Dates: 
Spring 2021: January 10-29
Summer 2021: May 26- June 5
 

Fall 2019 Res Life Staff

  • Resident Assistant Position Requirements
    • Enrolled full-time in a undergraduate or graduate program at the University of New Orleans. 
    • Maintain a collegiate GPA of at least a 2.5
    • Be in good academic, financial and conduct standing with the university
    • Be able to role model positive behavior, enforce policies and serve as a resourse for residential students.

  • Resident Assistant Compensation

    Scholarship in the amount of 1 bedroom in a 4 bedroom Pontchartrain Hall unit and corresponding required meal plan and the opportunity to earn additional hourly wages as a Desk Assistant. 

  • Resident Assistant Committments
    • Participate in all mandatory fall and spring training sessions and assist with resident check-in and check-out. 
    • Participate in weekly duty calendar in which the RA remains in their hall during specific hours to respond to emergency situations which may arise after office hours and complete rounds of the halls. 
    • Plan and Implement floor and building wide programs. 
    • Complete regularly scheduled safety inspections of assigned residents rooms.
    • Additional responsibilities as outlines in Employment Agreement.

     

 

Office Assistants in the Office of Residential Life

While visiting our main office, you will encounter several residential life team members, including our first line of assistance, Office Assistants.  In the Office of Residential Life, an Office Assistant (OA)is a part-time student worker who assists the professional residential life team with administrative tasks during business hours of 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m.. Office Assistants help to keep student records organized and confidential as well as serve our residents and potential customers in many capacities.  Some of the duties that our OAs complete are:
Vehicle/bike registration,
Answering phone calls,
Escorting facilities team members when needed
Filing, copying and other administrative tasks as assigned.

Desk Attendants in the Office of Residential Life

Pontchartrain Hall features 24 hour front desks to assist our residential students. The Office of Residential Life hires student attendants to staff these desks and provide friendly and effective customer service to residents and guests of the halls.   

If you would like to join our residential life team as a Desk Attendant, please complete our Desk Attendant position application. 

  • Desk Attendant Responsibilities
    • Greeting residents and guests.
    • Utilize logs for guest check-in /out procedures
    • Noting in the desk log of any issues that arise during their shift
    • Escalating concerns to the Resident Assistant on duty or other personnel. 
    • Sign out equipment (carts & pool equip etc.)
    • Assist residents with maintenance request
    • Answer, triage & transfer phone calls when needed
    • Take appropriate messages to relay to a specific office or individual at desk
    • Write Incident reports as needed and follow-up with that in the desk log
    • Logging all hours appropriately on time-sheets
    • Completion of any other duty as assigned by management
  • Desk Attendant Compensation

    Hourly wage for hours worked: new employees begin at the bottom of the allowed payroll schedule to allow for growth.
    Required to work 6 hours- considered "permanent" hours weekly to remain in position.
